Turkish opposition party appeals court for nuclear law

Republican People's Party (CHP), main opposition in Turkey, appealed to the highest court for the annulment of a law which makes possible erection of nuclear power plants.

Tacidar Seyhan, a deputy from the Republican People's Party (CHP), submitted Thursday a petition to the Constitutional Court asking for the annulment of certain provisions of the third and seventh articles of the law, which define, among other things, qualifications to be sought for companies to compete and the procedure for the selection of the contractor company.

The law was approved last November by President Abdullah Gul.
