Turkish physician amid rare female doctors to use Da Vinci system

Turkish physician Prof. Ayse Filiz Avsar became one of the ten women surgeons in the world using Da Vinci Surgical System in operations.

Avsar, chief of women's diseases and birth unit at Ataturk Hospital in Ankara, said the robot enabled the surgeons to carry out the operation more easily and with less pain.

Avsar said Da Vinci assisted surgeries facilitated the operations as the surgeon could see the diseased area closely and could work without giving damage to normal tissues.

Prof. Avsar said she got robotic surgery training in an advanced surgery technological training center in France.

Robotic surgery is the use of robots in performing surgery. Three major advances aided by surgical robots have been remote surgery, minimally invasive surgery and unmanned surgery. Some major advantages of robotic surgery are precision, miniaturization, smaller incisions, decreased blood loss, less pain, and quicker healing time.
