Turkey sent a water-dropping plane to Greece to assist the efforts to extinguish forest fires.
The fire broke out near the town of Marathon on Friday night and spread quickly to adjacent wooded areas. The wildfires razed about 15,000 hectares of forest and brush, damaged or destroyed scores of homes and forced thousands to flee outlying areas of the Greek capital. Several people were injured in the fires.
