Turkish PM says Gaza tragedy still continues at UN speech
Turkish PM Erdogan said that Turkey's recent efforts to normalize its relations with Armenia started to bear fruits.
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that Turkey's recent efforts to normalize its relations with Armenia started to bear fruits.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Erdogan said that Turkey was an element of peace and stability in its region.
"The problems in our region have global consequences at the same time. Therefore, our constructive and conciliatory policy in this region contributes to global peace as well," Erdogan said.
Erdogan said the ongoing dialogue process between Turkey and Greece was a concrete example of such approach, adding that the efforts aiming at the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations were yielding to fruitful results.
Erdogan also said that Turkey expected the countries in its region to share its vision for peace, security and stability.
Pointing to the importance of Iraq's territorial integrity, political unity and domestic peace, Erdogan said that Turkey attached great importance to the establishment of a national consensus in this country as well as continuation of a political dialogue focusing on all the segments of the Iraqi society.
Support to Palestinian people
Commenting on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as well, Erdogan said Turkey had always supported and would continue to support the Palestinian people.
Erdogan also said that the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza continued and promises regarding the situation in the region were not kept.
"It is our humanitarian and conscientious responsibility to put an end to this tragedy and establish a lasting atmosphere of peace," he said.
Regarding Iran's nuclear program, Erdogan said that the conflict on such matter should be solved through dialogue.
Commenting on the Alliance of Civilizations initiative as well, Erdogan said such initiative would contribute to the establishment of a global civilization based on international values thanks to the activities carried out on issues such as democracy, rule of law, good governance, human rights, gender equality, youth and media.
