FITCH UPGRADES TURKEY'S LOCAL CURRENCY RATING TO 'BB'

Fitch Ratings, a global rating agency, upgraded Turkey's long-term local currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) to 'BB' due to improvements in the economy, on Wednesday.


ADDITIONAL RAISE IN WAGES OF CIVIL SERVANTS

Consumer price index have raised 4.12 points in the last five months. If the inflations continue to rise with the current trend, the difference will be reflected to civil servants salaries in January.

FM VISITS 15 COUNTRIES IN 100 DAYS

Ali Babacan, who left behind hundred days as the FM, attracted attention with his performance. Babacan, who was the first minister to visit Iraq after the invasion, ended the 47 year longing in Western Thrace. He visited a total of 15 countries.


INFLATION TARGETS MISSED, CIVIL SERVANTS TO GET COMPENSATION RAISE

The government had promised to give a compensation raise to civil servants during collective agreement bargaining talks if the inflation target was missed in the second half of 2007. According to Turkish Statistical Institution data, the consumer price index have raised 4.12 points in the last five months. In other words, the inflation target was missed even before the year is over.

According to this, at the end of December the government has to give a inflation compensation raise to the civil servants. Even if the consumer price index does not rise in December, a compensation raise will be made in the salaries of civil servants.

NO NEW AMNESTY

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they were open to proposals in regard to "return home law". Erdogan stated that a new amnesty law was not on the agenda, however the current law could be made more flexible.


FENERBAHCE, GIANT OF EUROPE

Turkish soccer team Fenerbahce who defeated CSK Moscow 3-1 in Istanbul advanced to the second round of Champions League for the first time in its history. Fenerbahce, with the eleven points it collected, beat the 10 point record of Galatasaray.

AMENDS HUNTER

US lawyer Monica Kelly, who is renown for plane crash lawsuits, is getting ready to file a 300 million USD lawsuit against Boeing for the plane crash in southern province of Isparta.

The prominent US law firm Ribbeck has undertaken the case for the crash which claimed lives of 57 people. Ribbeck filed the lawsuit for Yavuz Arik who had lost his mother Prof. Engin Arik in the crash. Monica Kelly, a lawyer working for the firm said, "we will get at least an amends of one million USD for each family."

The law firm which is known as the worst nightmare of airplane companies, carried 14 plane crashed to court, and won the majority of them. An expert who inspected the crash site said, "it is not pilotage error, it could be mechanical malfunction."


FENERBAHCE FESTIVAL

Fenerbahce defeated CSKA Moscow in the Champions league and advanced to the next round. Though it went behind with an own-goal by Edu, Fenerbahce won the victory with scorers Alex and Ugur Boral(2). Fenerbahce became the first Turkish team to collect the most points in the Champions League with the eleven points it collected in Group (G).

WE CAN MAKE ARTICLE 221 OF TCK MORE FLEXIBLE, ERDOGAN

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had earlier given clear messages that a law similar to "return home law" could be passed. Erdogan said yesterday, "we will do whatever is necessary in the legal framework. Article 221 (of Turkish Penal Code)... is still in force, we could make the law more flexible, we could reform it."


POWERFUL MESSAGE TO GOVERNMENT

Works of the Constitution Conciliation Platform pioneered by Marmara Group Foundation were made public. The platform which said the constitution should be prepared by taking into consideration of the views of nongovernmental organizations criticized the document of Justice & Development (AK) Party. Platform Chairman Suheyl Batum said, "the constitution should not be prepared by a single side."

CONSTITUTION WORKSHOP'S FINAL DECLARATION ISSUED

At the end of the Constitution Workshop attended by representatives of 83 nongovernmental organizations, they said that a common mind has appeared within the scope of the basic principles and the new constitution should be cohesive. Some of the principles that were prepared in the workshop for the new constitution are as follows:
-There should be clear definitions in regard to restrictions on rights and freedoms.
-Freedoms of thought and expression should be guaranteed in an effective way.
-All workers should have equal social security rights.


BUSINESS WORLD OUTRAGED BY ATTITUDE OF FRANCE

Turkish business world showed a great reaction to the attitude of France which was opposed to the use of words like 'accession' and 'membership' for Turkey. Guler Sabanci said, "it is contrary to the law." On the other hand, representatives from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) said, "this cannot be accepted."

WAS HE KIDNAPPED OR DID HE ESCAPE?

A lieutenant physician Mehmet Fatih Ulug, who went on an operation against terrorist organization PKK in southeastern province of Sirnak, has gone missing. It has been claimed that the lieutenant may have escaped. His family denied this claim and said that "the PKK may have abducted him." On the other hand, General Staff did not make a statement on the matter yet.


FUNERAL FOR VITALI HAKKO

A funeral was held for renowned Turkish businessmen Vitali Hakko, founder of Vakko company, on Wednesday. The leading figure of the Turkish fashion world, the founder of the first global Turkish brand Vakko, Hakko died at the age of 94. His family, friends and staff of Vakko bade farewell to Hakko at the funeral held at his first plant. On the other hand, shops of Vakko did not open till 2:30 p.m. when the funeral ended.

PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the EU draft agenda and French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the reception hosted by Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD). "Mr. Sarkozy who has a different attitude in bilateral talks, adopts another one when we turn our back," said Erdogan.
