Three Turkishscientists have developed a new technique which enables the computer-assissteddiagnosis of lung cancer

Three Turkish scientists, Prof. Osman Nuri Ucan from IstanbulUniversity and Onur Osman & SerhatOzekes from Istanbul Ticaret University, developed a new technique which enables the computer-assisted diagnosis of lungcancer.

Onur Osman said computer-assisted methods used to determine cancer, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance (MR), started to improverecently.

Emphasizing that their method was also a similar one, Osman said thatthey applied image processing techniques such as artificial plexus and geneticalgorithms, to the medical pictures they obtained with tomography.

Noting that it took a long time to examine the results of computedtomography, Osman noted, "Thanks to our system, the computer terminatesthe process in 3 to 5 minutes and it can determine the problematic areashortly".

Osman also noted that their technique spotlighted the problematic locationin case the doctor overlooked it.

"In addition to lung cancer, the same technique can be used for breastand colon cancers as well," Osman added.
