Ban Ki-Moon's report proposes the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for 6 months and suggests that the window of opportunity for the solution in the island is open.

United Nations (UN) Security Council is discussing UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's report on Cyprus.

Ban Ki-Moon's report proposes the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for 6 months and suggests that the window of opportunity for the solution in the island is open.

Also, Taye-Brook Zerihoun, special representative of the UN Secretary-General, briefed the council on the recent developments in the island.

The council is expected to prepare a draft resolution in line with Ban Ki-Moon's report and adopt it in its meeting on June 13th.

UNFICYP's mandate in the island will end on June 15th.
