US orders some 80 staff, dependents out of Haiti
US said it has ordered about 80 nonessential U.S. embassy staff as well as dependents to leave Haiti.
The United States said on Wednesday it has ordered about 80 nonessential U.S. embassy staff as well as dependents to leave Haiti so that the mission can focus on helping earthquake victims.
"We have ordered the departure of approximately 80 embassy spouses, children and non-essential personnel," Cheryl Mills, counselor and chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told reporters. "Those will begin happening later today so that we can assure that the infrastructure and resources that are there can be properly concentrated on those who are in need."
