Most U.S. presidential hopefuls will be in full fund-raising mode in the coming week as the deadline for filing quarterly campaign finance reports looms.
The various camps have until next Saturday to file the reports, which have become a barometer of how well the respective campaigns have appealed to political contributors.
The Washington Post said Saturday that Republican John McCain and Democrat John Edwards were looking for strong showings as they try to make up ground against the likes of Mitt Romney, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The Post said the early start to the presidential race and the earlier primaries require war chests to be fully loaded earlier in the process.
