US: 'Turkey can play a role over Iran nuclear program'

A spokesman with the U.S. State Department suggested on Tuesday that Turkey could play an important role in convincing Iran to change its attitude over the nuclear standoff.

"Turkey is a neighbor to Iran and they could play an important role in perhaps trying to convince the Iranian regime to change their behavior and really come in line with the mainstream of behavior in the international system," Sean McCormack told a daily press briefing.

McCormack said Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and U.S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice would hold talks on Turkish-American relations, fight against the PKK, issue related to Iraq, the Middle East and Iran.
