Circassians will organize a series of events and protests marking the anniversary of the exile from their homeland. Young activists are going to all Circassian villages in Turkey to plant seedlings and they want support for their action.
Taskopru, only two kilometers from the center of the province of Duzce, is a Circassian village. It was established in the near vicinity of Melen River by Circassians who were exiled from their homeland by the Russian Tsar II. Aleksandra in 1864.
Despite passing 150 years, Circassian residents who count for 90 percent of the population of Taskopru village, continue to live their culture.
Exile monument for every village
Circassian youth are visiting the Circassian villages before the commemoration and protests on the 150th anniversary of the 21 May exile which they described as a genocide.
The last stop for activists seeking support from the public for their actions was Taskopru. Young activists bring the seedlings as they visit the villages. Their first work is to go a central point in the village and to plant the seedlings. It is intended that planted seedlings become a symbolic monument living for years.Last Mod: 08 Mayıs 2014, 16:43
