A Japanese art exhibition opened at Istanbul's Topkapi Palace within the framework of activities of "Japan Year in Turkey, 2010".

Prince Tomohito Mikasa of Japan participated in the inauguration of the "5,000 Years of Japanese Art" exhibition at the Dormitory of the Privy Chamber of the Topkapi Palace.

"It is the right time to celebrate 'Japan Year in Turkey' since 2010 is the 120th anniversary of the establishment of Japanese-Turkish friendship," Mikasa said during the ceremony.

Organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, Tokyo National Museum, Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the exhibition introduces the flowers of Japanese art that spans about 5,000 years from Jomon period to Edo period, focuses on Tokyo National Museum's collection including two National Treasures and three Important Cultural Properties.

The exhibition will stay open till June 28.

2003 was celebrated as the "Year of Turkey" in Japan.

Earlier, artifacts of the Topkapi Palace were exhibited in the Japanese cities of Kyoto and Tokyo.
