The Panorama 1453 Historical Museum in İstanbul was named the best museum of the year by the İstanbul-based Literature, Art and Cultural Research Foundation (ESKADER), news agencies reported.
The museum, run by Kültür A.Ş., the cultural body affiliated with the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, opened in January 2009 and has managed to become one of the most popular tourist attractions of the city in terms of number of visitors in the past two years.
Among the museums run by Kültür A.Ş., Panorama 1453 Historical Museum is among the top three most popular facilities in terms of number of visitors, particularly attracting local tourists.
ESKADER, in a written statement released on Wednesday, said it had selected Panorama 1453, which is billed as “the world's first fully panoramic museum,” because of its “modern approach in museum administration” as well as its popular appeal. The museum attracted around 1 million foreign and domestic tourists throughout 2010, the statement said.
The Panorama 1453 Historical Museum, in its panoramic depictions, recounts scenes from Sultan Mehmed II's conquest of İstanbul in 1453. The Best Museum of 2010 prize was part of ESKADER's annual Culture and Art Awards, presented in 33 fields in total, Anatolia reported.
