Neighboring the capital of Malaysia, Tanjug Malim has become an educational center for the country. The first step that brought Tanjug Malim to the forefront of the education market was a teacher’s training school opened by the British colonial administration.



The town has experienced rapid development after the opening of the school and it has started to be called the “town of education”. The teacher’s training school was transformed to a faculty of education which had served the children of the Perak dynasty. However, Peraks are not the only dynasty to choose Tanjung Malim for their children’s education. Other dynastical families in the Malay Peninsula had sent their predecessors to the educational facilities in the town, which gradually made the town an educational center.

The second important school in Tanjung Malim is the Sultan Idris Education Center which continues its activities till this day. It is also a British initiative and especifically Richard Winstedt, a British expert of education which took part in the colonial administration, had provided remarkable contribution to the center’s development.

The historical buildings and several places of worship belong to different religions signifies the town’s past and cosmopolitan characteristics. Strategically, Tanjug Malim has great importance as it is located at the middle of the railway network that bind the country’s north to the south. The buildings of police department, Center of Islamic Studies and Court House are among the still-standing historical structures that sparks interest for visitors.

Moreover, mosques and Buddhist temples juxtaposing each other reflect religious pluralism in the town. The Big Mosque is one of the significant places of worship in Tanjug Malim. The Chinese Buddhist Temple also represents the Chinese minority’s loyalty to their religion.

Sculptures of the Buddha and prayer books are at the disposal of the Buddhists. Another important religious building in Tanjug Malim is a Hindu temple which attracts attention with its unique architectural style.
