Some P88 million ($1.88 million) worth of illegal drugs and ingredients for bomb making have been seized by the police from a mayor's house in the central Philippines.
GMA News online, citing the Philippine National Police, said at least 11 kilograms of shabu (methamphetamine) and ingredients for bomb-making were confiscated in a raid at the ancestral home of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. early Wednesday.
The seizure comes less than a week after President Rodrigo Duterte gave more than 150 officials suspected of links to illegal drugs 24 hours to surrender or be shot on sight as part of his war on drugs.
The next day, around 31 police officers and 27 local officials -- including Espinosa Sr. -- turned themselves in.
Police said Wednesday that the drugs were found in the house's kitchen cabinets, and had a street value of P88 million.
Espinosa has admitted that his son, Ronald "Kerwin" Espinosa, is a top drug trafficker in the Visayas region.
The son remains a fugitive, according to police.
According to police figures, more than 400 drug suspects have been killed while nearly 600,000 others have surrendered since Duterte’s July 1 inauguration.Güncelleme Tarihi: 10 Ağustos 2016, 11:38
