At least seven people are dead and 13 others missing after a fishing boat capsized and sank early Thursday in River Berombang in Indonesia’s North Sumatra province, according to an official.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of public relations at the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management, told the Anadolu Agency, "until now, the rescue operation is still searching for victims."

According to locals, the vessel had been returning from a family shrine in North Labuhan District when it ran out of fuel and crashed into an underwater forest, before overturning.

The boat is believed to have been carrying 48 people.

Police and military teams are conducting the search, joined by citizens using makeshift boats.
