Afghan security forces claim to have killed at least 77 Taliban members since Wednesday.

Afghan security forces have launched countrywide anti-militant operations in response to a fresh campaign of attacks launched by the Taliban in April.

“Afghan security forces have killed 77 insurgents during joint operations in the past 24 hours. At least seven others were also arrested and a huge amount of Taliban ammunition was seized,” a statement from the Afghan interior ministry said. “At least 26 landmines were discovered and destroyed.”

Afghan national security forces assumed full responsibility for security after the NATO and U.S.-led coalition troops ended their operations in Afghanistan in December 2014.
