One Afghan police officer and a Taliban leader Hafiz Mahfuz have been killed in a gunfight in the north-eastern province of Badakhshan on Wednesday.
Badakhshan Governorship Spokesman Ahmad Navid Furuten told AA that a clash took place in the Do Ab area in Baharek sub-district between security forces and the Taliban members while the militants were meeting.
Furuten stated that Mahfuz, an important Taliban leader, and a policeman died while a police officer and two militiants were injured during the clash. He also added that four Taliban members were captured alive.
Furuten said that the locals will be able to breathe freely again after the death of Mahfuz as he made frequent attacks on the civilian population.
The Taliban have not made a statement yet over the clash.
