Afghanistan has freed three Italian aid workers arrested just over a week ago on suspicion of plotting to kill a provincial governor, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said on Sunday.
The members of the Italian medical charity Emergency were detained on April 10 in Helmand province and accused of taking part in a scheme to assassinate the governor.
Reuters news agency quoted Frattini as saying in a statement he was grateful for the swift resolution of the issue.
