The death toll from a devastating landslide in northwest China rose to 702 by mid-day on Tuesday, with 1,042 missing, a disaster relief official said.

On Monday, authorities said the official death count was 337, with 1,148 missing. A torrent of mud and floodwater engulfed the town of Zhaoqu late on Saturday night.
