Addressing a bloc of powerful emerging economies, China’s president said Sunday that if countries take a stand against “all kinds” of terrorism, it will struggle to survive.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) summit, Xi Jinping said: "If we oppose all kinds of terrorism, address both its symptoms and root causes, terrorists will have no place to hide."
Xi said this year BRICS countries are holding meetings on cyber security and fighting terrorism.
"We should uphold the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, protect the basic norms of international relations, and oppose hegemony and power politics in international relations," he stressed.
He also said BRICS should be enlarged to reach more countries and more people, a goal other members of the bloc have opposed.
China holds the BRICS term presidency, and its ninth summit will continue through Tuesday in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen.
Among the topics the summit plans to tackle are global economic growth, trade, investment, financial cooperation, and communication.
According to 2015 data, the population of the BRICS countries is over 3 billion people.Güncelleme Tarihi: 04 Eylül 2017, 11:15
