China repeated its call for all sides to exercise "calm and restraint," after the U.S. called on North Korea to apologise for the sinking of the South Korean ship Cheonan.
The Cheonan incident should be handled "fairly and objectively", "like other international issues", Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.
North Korea has denied involvement in the sinking.
