The number of dead in Tajikistan's mudslides and flood rose to 15 on Saturday, with more than 40 people still missing, the emergency committee said.
The former Soviet republic bordering Afghanistan had earlier said seven people were killed after heavy rain hit the Central Asian republic.
The mudslides, which happen every spring in the mountainous nation, destroyed over 1,500 houses in the town of Kulyab, 195 km (121 miles) south of the capital Dushanbe, and nearby villages, said committee spokesman Dustmurod Zabirov.
"The death toll may rise," he said.
Last May powerful mudslides killed at least 18 people.
