Seventeen soldiers and four rebel fighters were killed after rebels stormed an army camp in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, officials said.

Seventeen soldiers were killed and four rebelduring an attack by Kashmiri fighters on an army headquarters in Indian-administered Kashmir on Sunday, the army's northern command said.

"Four Kashmiri fighters were killed in counter-terrorist operation at Uri. 17 soldiers make the supreme sacrifice," the command said on Twitter, referring to the Uri area, about 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of the troubled northern region's main city of Srinagar.

 In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is reported to have cancelled his visit to Russia and the US. He has called for a high-level meeting on Sunday to discuss the situation is Kashmir.
