Four police officers died on Monday when a gunman opened fire on their vehicle in the eastern neighborhood of Karachi, the commercial capital of Pakistan.
"Gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on a security vehicle that was on patrolling duty in the Ibrahim Haidri area," Munir Shaikh, a Karachi police chief told the Anadolu Agency. "As a result, all four policemen died on the spot."
No group has so far claimed the responsibility for the attack which occurred in a neighborhood notorious for gangsters and drug traffickers.
Dr Seemi Jamali, the director of a local hospital, told reporters that all four victims were dead on arrival.
"They had received multiple bullet wounds, and died on the spot," he said.
Karachi, a port city of 18 million people, has a 29-year history of political, ethnic and sectarian violence.
Police and a paramilitary force have launched a massive crackdown on criminals and Taliban militants in the last four months.
Around 30 security personnel have also been killed.
