India arrests more than 100 Tamil students and activists from Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) and other who staged a protest Indian forces killings in Kashmir, a Kashmiri ews agency said.
They also showed solidarity and extended their support to the Kashmiris’ pro-independence protests.
Indian Tamils are biggest Tamil minority alongside Sri Lanka. Tamils fought against Sri Lanka government for liberation. But Sri Lanka declared victory for armed Tamil groups.
Tamil students demanded that India should stop “war” against the Kashmiri people, withdraw army from the territory and initiate talks on the Kashmiris’ rights to self-determination, Kashmiri Media Service said.
Kashmiris see India as an “occupier” and accuse the ruling of systematic violations, killing dozens of civilians in Himalayan region.
The biggest anti-India demonstrations in the last two years across Muslim-majority Kashmir valley started on June 11 when a 17-year-old student died after being hit by a tear gas shell fired by police during protests in Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital.
India deployed the army in Srinagar last month for the first time in nearly two decades. They were pulled from the city when violence was brought under control.
Tens of thousands of Muslims have been killed since pro-independent moves grew against Indian rule in 1989.
