An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit the main Indonesian island of Java on Tuesday, shaking high-rise buildings in the capital Jakarta.
There were no reports of casualties or damage.
An automated text message sent by the meteorological agency said that the centre of the quake was 13 kilometres underground and 147 kilometres southeast of Sukabumi, West Java. No tsunami warning was issued.
The United States Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 5.4 quake 69 miles (111 kilometres) south-south west of the West Java city of Bandung.
