The head of the opposition Your Party, Yoshimi Watanabe, said that his party would not join Japan's ruling coalition, which was mauled in an Upper House election on Sunday.
"It is clear what Your Party must do, so we are completely different from the wobbling Democratic Party of Japan," Watanabe told broadcaster TBS, as exit polls showed his recently formed party might win 10 seats.
Meanwhile, the secretary-general of Japan's ruling Democratic Party, Yukio Edano, said on Sunday that he was not planning to ask an opposition Your Party to join the ruling coalition.
The Democrats may ask opposition parties to cooperate on a policy-by-policy basis, Edano told broadcaster NTV.
