A teenager has been shot dead by Indian police as Kashmir erupted in protests after the arrest of two leaders on Friday. Police said, that protesters hurled rocks and shouted slogans in the village of Narbal resulting in the closure of shops, businesses and public transportation in response to protestors calls for a strike that were challenging India's sovereignty in Kashmir.

Indian police arrested two Muslim leaders Masrat Alam and Ali Geelani which resulted in the protests where two dozen people, including security personnel, were injured in Srinagar on Friday when protesters fought a pitched battle with security forces after Friday prayers over Alam's detention. 

Masrat Alam, who was arrested over raising of pro-Pakistan slogans and hoisting Pakistan flags at a rally, has been remanded to 7-day police custody.
