Valery Shevelyov, the executive director of Kazakhstan’s major uranium producer and nuclear-fuel cycle operator KazAtomProm, was arrested on Tuesday on corruption charges.
The probe relating to the construction of KazAtomProm's new facilities named Shevelyov as a suspect in the embezzling $710 million, according to Kazakh State Anticorruption Agency.
Shevelyov's predecessor Muhtar Dzhakishev has been in prison since 2009 on similar charges.
