Dozens of babies died over four days last week at a hospital hit by the deaths of more than 100 infants in August, local media reported.
Between Wednesday and Saturday last week, 58 children died at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh state.
Dr. D.K. Srivastava, head of the community medicine department, told the ANI news agency that 32 babies were less than a month old. He said the majority had died from an inflammation of the brain due to infection.
In August, 70 children died at the hospital over a 72-hour period, mostly due to a lack of oxygen. Police later charged seven people after it emerged the company supplying the hospital with oxygen had halted deliveries due to non-payment.
Earlier in August, 50 children died over five days.
The opposition Samajwadi Party accused the state government of failing the monitor of the hospital.
“This is not the first incident that has taken place in Gorakhpur,” Sunil Yadav, Samajwadi Party spokesman, said in a statement. “Even after this, the current state government has not implemented any action of inquiry into the matter.
“It’s sad to know and say that our government is laid back and not adhering to the cries of the common man.”
Gorakhpur is the home district of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a Hindu nationalist.Güncelleme Tarihi: 06 Kasım 2017, 13:54
