OIC calls for calm, delegation to probe Kyrgyzstan violence

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will send a high-level delegation to Kyrgyzstan to investigate incidents that erupted in the country.

OIC's Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu decided to send an OIC delegation, headed by his special representative Abdel Moez Bokhari, to the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek after violence had erupted over the weekend between Kyrgyz and Uzbek people.

The delegation is expected to arrive in Bishkek later on Monday, and deliver Ihsanoglu's letter to Kyrgyz officials.

OIC delegation will also visit the areas where violence erupted.

Ihsanoglu had appealed to all parties for calm and return to normalcy following the outbreak of violence in the city of Osh, which left scores of people dead and wounded.

Secretary General Ihsanoglu also expressed his deep concern on the regretful incident and called for peaceful coexistence among the various minorities in Kyrgyzstan.

Ihsanoglu urged the Kyrgyz authorities to take necessary measures to bring the situation back to normal and to prevent recurrence of these sad incidents.

Riots in Osh and Jalalabad provinces killed at least 110 people over the past three days, reports said.
