Top leaders of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have agreed to unite efforts to advance the longing of Bangsamoro communities in Mindanao in a deal brokered by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Inquirer said.

The accord was signed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in the sidelines of the 37th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC, said Mohagher Iqbal, chair of the MILF peace negotiating panel.

The MILF developed from a faction of the MNLF which bolted in 1978 due to some strategy questions.

In a post in its official website, the OIC said Secretary General Ekmelledin Ihsanoglu invited both MNLF Chair Nur Misuari and MILF Chair Murad Ebrahim in a closed-door meeting on May 18 which resulted to the coordination agreement.

Both leaders signed the agreement in behalf of their organizations on May 20, in the presence of Ambassador Sayyed Kassem El-Masry, OIC special envoy for the Southern Philippines. Filipino military launched an offensive in Moro region later since August, 2008, when Supreme Court cancelled an agreement, signed between the Philippine government and MILF.

After four decades of armed conflict between the Filipino state and the Moro Muslims, the two parties agreed to sign an agreement that would end battle. However, the supreme court of the Philippine declared the agreement "illegal" on August 4, which caused the conflict to resume.

Luwaran.com., said that Ameen recalled that in the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) initialed by MILF and government peace negotiators on July 27, 2008, the latter acceded or conceded that it is the birthright of the Moros to be called as "Bangsamoro", which is a nationality identity as distinguished from Filipinos.

The Moros formally acknowledged themselves as "Moro", which is a separate nationality from Filipinos, in a petition addressed to the United States President and Congress on February 1, 1924.

They wanted Mindanao to be declared to be separated from Luzon and Visayas in the grant of independence or become and American colony to be given independence separately.
