The Philippines, chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), expressed solidarity with London and condemns the terrorist attack on a packed London Underground train on Friday.

"We denounce this act of terror perpetrated against the British people. We are one with our British friends at this time and express our hope that the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice," said Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano who is in New York to the attend the United Nations General Assembly, as quoted by Rappler, a Philippine-based online news portal.

A homemade bomb detonated by the door of the rear carriage in a packed train during a rush hour on Friday morning in London left at least 22 people injured - the fourth terror attack in the city since March this year, the fifth in the United Kingdom including the attack in Manchester in May.

"We pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in this explosion," Cayetano said.

The Philippine Embassy in London Antonio Lagdameo confirmed that there were no Filipinos hurt in the incident but said that the office is continuously monitoring the situation.

Cayetano urged the Filipinos – estimated at 182,700 in the United Kingdom, about 70 percent in the Greater London area, to remain vigilant.
