At least five people, including a woman were killed and 23 others injured in a ISIL-claimed suicide attack in capital Kabul’s diplomatic area on Tuesday, according to a Health Ministry spokesman.

Waheed Majroh confirmed the death and injury tolls of the attack that took place at around 4 p.m. local time (1130 GMT).

A number of foreign embassies are located in the Wazir Akbar Khan area where the attack took place; however, the Ministry of Defense said one of its office on 14th Street was the target.

In a statement, Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Dawlat Waziri said: “At around 4 p.m. a suicide attack took place close to the international affairs office of the Ministry of Defense.

“Luckily, the Ministry of Defense employees have not sustained any losses.”

The blast area was also meters away from the site of another deadly truck bombing in May that killed up to 150 people.

ISIL claimed responsibility for the latest attack through its propaganda website Amaq.
