Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday welcomed the announcement of a humanitarian cease-fire in Yemen.

Referring to ousted Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, the ministry said: “President Hadi’s responsible and constructive attitude has been decisive for providing the humanitarian cease-fire."

The ministry also appreciated the efforts of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Ismail al-Shiekh, the UN envoy to Yemen, to achieve the cease-fire.

Turkey will continue to make its contribution along with the international community,” the statement added.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced on Thursday that all political parties in Yemen would commit to a humanitarian truce starting Friday, a measure expected to last until the end of Ramadan.

Earlier on Thursday, Ismail al-Shiekh, the UN envoy to Yemen, said that a humanitarian truce would begin in the war-torn country in the next 24 hours.

Yemen has remained in chaos since last September, when the Shia Houthi militant group overran the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

Aden, the trade and economic capital of Yemen, has also been witnessing fierce battles for the past three months between Houthis and the Popular Resistance Committees, who are loyal to Hadi.
