Gunmen killed two people in an attack on a polio vaccination campaign in northwestern Pakistan, local media reported Tuesday.

A vaccinator and a police officer guarding the health workers were killed, while another vaccinator was injured, when their vehicle was ambushed in Mansehra, a district of the Khyber Pakthunkhawa province.

Anti-polio vaccinators are regularly attacks, especially in Pakistan's northwestern provinces, where the highest number of polio cases are reported.

Taliban members outlawed polio vaccination campaigns after the CIA used one as cover to search for the late Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
