Netherlands agrees compensation for Srebrenica victims

World Bulletin / News Desk

The Netherlands has agreed to compensate the families of three Bosnians killed in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre.

Defense Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert apologized to the families, according to a statement released by the ministry on June 25.

The amount of compensation was not revealed but the ministry had previously offered to pay each family 20,000 euros ($22,300).

More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed in Srebrenica in July 1995 when Bosnian Serb troops seized the town, which was supposed to be a safe haven under the protection of Dutch UN peacekeepers.
