Armenia will buy offensive and defensive weapons from Russia with a $200-million loan provided by Moscow, a spokesperson from the Armenian defense ministry has said.

The Armenian parliament approved last week an agreement between Yerevan and Moscow on the loan, which was signed on June 26 and aims to finance Russian arms supplies to the Armenian army.

“Within the framework of a $200 million loan agreement with Russia, we have decided to buy defensive and offensive weaponry from the country,” said defense spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan on Tuesday.

Hovhannisyan did not provide further information on which weapons would be purchased.

On July 2 the Armenian parliament approved the three-year loan deal.
