The occassion celebrates the 69th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. Sarkisian also participated in events marking the 22nd anniversary of Armenia's victory in the Nagorno-Karabakh city of Shusha.

It is time President Serzh Sargsyan recognizes the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Before Armenia recognizes the independence of Karabakh and its subsequent annexation to the motherland, we should not get excited which city, local government or country recognizes Artsakh as a free and independent state. Whatever the political reasons are behind Sargysyan’s antiquated policy, Armenia should take the first step and then expect others to follow suit.
