Some 3.5 million foreign citizens are said to work in Russia illegally, according to official figures of the Federal Migration Service.

Head of Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romanovsky said 90 percent of illegal workers come from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

Among the countries are Turkey, China and Vietnam, where there are people who have been deported from Russia.

The Federal Migration Service said it gave work permits to 1.8 million people.

People from post Soviet Union states flock to Russia every year to work as the country has a growing economy and favorable working conditions.
