Russia's ambassador in Ankara has said his country and Turkey could sign an agreement to remove mutual visa requirements "very soon", adding however that such a deal was unlikely to come during a prospective visit of the Russian president to Ankara.
"I don't think that the agreement can be finalized during President Medvedev's visit to Turkey but I believe that it would be signed very soon," Vladimir Ivanovskiy told a round-table meeting in Istanbul over Turkey-Russia relations.
The Russian president is expected to visit Turkey in May.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in Moscow earlier in January this year when he said the visa agreement could be signed during Medvedev's visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara.
