Iraq's electoral commission says Turkey provided help

Faraj al-Haidari, head of Iraq's electoral commission, said on Sunday that Higher Election Board of Turkey provided all technical facilities for the general elections in Iraq on March 7.

Speaking to A.A in Istanbul, al-Haidari said that Iraqi elections were very successful, adding that many countries were inviting Iraqi officials to learn about their experiences. He added that they would proceed to Russia and then African countries to share their information and experiences.

Al-Haidari said that Middle East and Arab countries attached importance to Iraq's electoral experiences.

He added that Higher Election Board of Turkey trained all personnel of Iraqi Electoral Commission.

Last week, Iraq's supreme court approved the final results of March 7 parliamentary elections. In the elections, Nouri Al-Maliki's Shiite Muslim State of Law alliance garnered 89 seats in the 325-seat Iraqi parliament, while former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's Iraqiya alliance secured 91 seats.
