Israel sends Predator training officers back to Turkey

World Bulletin - News Desk

Israel has allowed its team which was training Turkish military officers on Predator unmanned aircraft to return to Turkey to continue the training program, but Israeli officials are still in discussions with Turkey as to whether another team can come back to train Turkish officers on the Heron unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The diplomatic crisis between Israel and Turkey that followed the May 31 attack by Israeli forces on an aid flotilla had resulted in Israel calling back its officers who were training Turkish military officers on both the Heron and Predator unmanned aircraft, Cihan News Agency said.

The Turkish army had decided to use Turkish aircraft in intelligence gathering as a result.

Although military sources said that the Israeli Predator training team had returned to Turkey, the same sources noted that Israel had declined to send the Heron training officers back because of security concerns. The Israeli side had requested special security for its officers at weekends and even within the military barracks but Turkey had turned down the request. Israeli and Turkish officials are holding discussions on the issue.
