Istanbul chosen as Islamic World Youth Capital

Istanbul, Turkey’s largest province, has been unanimously elected the Islamic World Youth Capital by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

Istanbul, Turkey’s largest province, has been unanimously elected the Islamic World Youth Capital by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

OIC affiliate Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation tabled the offer to select Istanbul the youth capital on Thursday during the 42nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Kuwait, along with a youth strategy for the future.

The offer received the votes of all 56 member states.

Istanbul will host the OIC Youth Summit in 2016.

The 56 member organisation who made the unanimous decision accepted the symbolic key in a flag bearing ceremony yesterday evening.

The programme was held in conjunction with the Islamic Cooperation Organization as well as the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYDC) and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

The opening ceremony speech was given by Secretary General Ambassador to ICYDC, Elsad Iskenderov as well as a speech given by Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin. Sahin pointed out the importance of Istanbul being of great Islamic geographical importance.
