Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said he was confident Turkish authorities would clarify the murder of Vatican's apostolic vicar in Anatolia, Bishop Luigi Padovese in Iskenderun.

The Italian Foreign Ministry released Frattini's message of condolence to Vatican's Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Dominique Mamberti.

In his message to Mamberti, Frattini said he was confident Turkish police and authorities would clarify the motives behind the murder Padovese and all the details.

He said he hoped Christians in Turkey would not be dismayed by the murder of Padovese and would continue to practice their religions in peace.

Bishop Padovese was stabbed to death in his summer mansion in southern Turkey.

Luigi Padovese was stabbed in the garden of his house in Iskenderun town of the southern province of Hatay.
