Merkel visits church during Turkey trip

German Chancellor Angela Merkel pay a visit to the German Protestant Church as part of her tour of Istanbul.

After visiting the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the German High School, Merkel and her entourage came to the German Protestant Church in the famous district of Beyoglu.

She met with pastors Holger Nollman and Aloys Butzkamm.

Turkey's Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay accompanied the German chancellor during the visit.

Merkel is currently paying a two-day state visit to Turkey.

Merkel and her entourage also visited the German High School.

During the visit, Merkel chatted with students and gave them her autographs while students took Merkel's photographs.

Later, Merkel met with teachers from the Goethe Institute as well as students, teachers and graduates from the German High School.

Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Culture & Tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay and Germany's Chancellery Commissioner for Migration, Refugees, and Integration Maria Boehmer were also in attendance at the meeting.

Tight security measures were taken in around the high school during the visit.
