Turkish Culture Minister Ertugrul Gunay on Sunday attended "National Day" event at the Turkish pavilion at EXPO 2010 World Fair in Shanghai, China.

Gunay met with Chinese Deputy Culture Minister Li Hong Feng prior to the formal opening of the "National Day" event.

Gunay in his address thanked to Chinese officials over their efforts for 2010 EXPO, which was the second biggest organization after the Olympiad. "My visit showed that there is a very big potential to boost culture and tourism relations between the two countries," he said.

Gunay said number of students coming to China to learn Chinese were around 500, indicating that this was pleasing as it showed that bridges were being re-constructed between the peoples of the two countries.

Deputy Minister Li referred to friendly relations between Turkey and China, indicating that political confidence between the two parties boosted and cooperation based on mutual interest deepened in areas of trade and investment.

The opening ceremony ended with the show of Turkish dance group Anatolian Fire.

Gunay will depart from China on Sunday evening.
