Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks, Egemen Bagis, said Friday that the Turkish government expected the EU not to discourage Turkey on the way to full membership.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Turkey Club of Columbia University in Istanbul's Conrad Hotel, Egemen Bagis said that the EU process was a road with two ways.
Both Turkey and the EU have responsibilities towards each other. We are determined to continue with the EU process as long as it is one based on realistic and solid platform, Bagis said.
Surely, opening chapters to negotiations is a goal. However, our actual goal is to help Turkey make transformation. We want to achieve transformation in Turkey so that our citizens reach high standards in all possible fields, Bagis also said.
