Syrian Ministers in Turkey for more cooperation

Turkish State Minister Mehmet Aydin met with Syrian Minister of Higher Education Ghiath Barakat in Ankara on Wednesday, Anadolu news agency said.

Speaking to reporters at the beginning of his meeting with Barakat, Aydin said that the Turkish government gave high importance to relations with Syria.

Our cooperation should also reflect on the fields of science and technology, Aydin said.

Aydin thanked Barakat for inaugurating the "2nd Turkey-Syria Joint Forum" in north-western town of Gebze on May 3, a forum that Aydin could not attend due to Constitutional amendments taking place at the Turkish Parliament.

Talks are progressing as part of the Forum. We are deciding on the scientific areas that we can cooperate in. Discussions are taking place on technoparks, Aydin also said.

Barakat said that Minister Aydin's visit to Syria in March left nice marks.

I am pleased to see the cooperation of Turkey and Syria in all fields, Barakat added.

"Turkish experiences of urban regeneration"

Meanwhile, Turkish Minister of Housing and Public Works Mustafa Demir met Syrian Minister of Local Administration Tamir Fuad al-Hijah in Ankara on Wednesday.

Speaking prior to the meeting, Demir said relations between Turkey and Syria had improved recently, adding that guest minister al-Hijah would have a busy schedule under the MoUs signed between the two parties. He said the visit would be fruitful particularly on infrastructure investments.

Al-Hijah said Syria was willing to make use of Turkey's experiences of urban regeneration.

"Syria has various ideas to solve shanty house problem. There are 110 shanty house regions in various provinces of Syria. Preparations are underway to develop a strategy form a national program on urban regeneration," Syrian minister said.
